"London Olympics is our goal" say Swiss stars Simone Kuhn and Nadine Zumkehr

Beach Volleyball - Players

Lausanne, Switzerland, January 29, 2010. Swiss Beach Volleyball players Simone Kuhn and Nadine Zumkehr have revealed the main aim for them in the next few years are the 2012 Olympic Games in London, and feel that after victory in Sanya, China, on last year's SWATCH FIVB World Tour, they are moving in the right direction.
The duo famously recorded Switzerland’s first ever women’s SWATCH FIVB World Tour victory with a 2-1 (17-21, 22-20, 15-13) win over world champions Jen Kessy and April Ross from the USA. However, they see that as the start and simply evidence that they are on the right track.
“The victory has shown us we are moving in the right direction, and it has motivated us more,” said Zumkehr in a recent interview with www.beach-volley.de. “It has also shown what is possible and that even the favorites can be beaten. I hope we can bring that certainty and confidence in the upcoming season.”
The duo, who ranked 14th on last year’s tour and notched the bronze medal at the European Championship Final in Sochi (Russia), were speaking in between pre-season training for the 2010 circuit. However, the event they are now beginning to look forward to is the 2012 Olympic Games.
Zumkehr said: “As I said, we want to continue moving in the right direction. The ultimate goal is the London Olympics. For Simone it will be her third participation whereas these would be my first games.”
And asked whether European teams are catching up their USA and Brazilian equivalents, Kuhn sounded optimistic. “I do think that the ranks show improvement. You just have to look at the incredible consistency of Laura Ludwig and Sara Goller (from Germany), amongst other European teams. Maybe we could even inspire them through our victory in Sanya and show them that it is possible.”
