News from the clubs
Katowice, Poland, November 26, 2009. A bunch of great Volleyball stars like Pavel Abramov, Anna Baranska and Magdalena Sliwa, even though playing for different teams, gathered together before the start of the 2009/2010 CEV Indesit Champions League. This very unusual meeting took place at the Planetary in Katowice, a city that stands out as a kind of Volleyball “Mecca” in Poland.Three teams from the Upper Silesia region, located in Southern Poland, take part in the upcoming CEV Indesit Champions League. These are JASTRZEBSKI Wegiel S.A. that benefited of a wild card to enter in the men's competition, plus Aluprof BIELSKO-BIALA and Enion Energia MKS DABROWA GORNICZA in the women’s division.
It was an idea of Mr. Zdzislaw Grodecki, President of JASTRZEBSKI Wegiel S.A., to organize a common press conference with the stars of the three teams, along with their respective coaches and officials.
"We are going to make new quality in our Volleyball team. Our aim is to build a great brand. I thought that it's a good idea to organize a common press conference before the start of the CEV Indesit Champions League in such a place" explains Zdzislaw Grodecki.
The Planetary in Katowice is a place which has been visited by thousands of kids during the year. They are learnt about the structure of the universe over there. Now, the Planetary was occupied by the real stars of the Volleyball world!
All Polish teams are looking forward to the upcoming matches, waiting with excitement for the first opponents. "I must admit that our group is really difficult and it won't be easy to get the promotion to the Playoffs. Our aim is to play as good as we can and qualify for the next stage" says Anna Baranska, the captain of Aluprof as well as of the Polish national team at the last European Championships.
In Pool C Aluprof BIELSKO-BIALA plays against Dinamo MOSCOW of Russia, runner-up of the 2008/09 season, FenerbahceAcibadem ISTANBUL of Turkey and Czech Modranska PROSTEJOV.
"We will be happy for winning every single set. It's not easy to compete with such great teams like Scavolini PESARO. But we have a good potential and I'm sure that the experience from the matches in the CEV Indesit Champions League will be beneficial for us in the future" states Magdalena Sliwa, the veteran of Enion Energia MKS DABROWA GORNICZA and one of the most Polish Volleyball player ever.
JASTRZEBSKI Wegiel S.A. has also great ambitions for the upcoming Champions League: the Poles will debut at home next Wednesday against Panathinaikos ATHENS of Greece. "While competing with Iskra ODINTSOVO last year, I won twice against this Greek team. But now it's a new team. If we play with consistency we'll be able to beat them" says Russian born star Pavel Abramov.
For the start of the 2009/2010 CEV Indesit Champions League JASTRZEBSKI prepared a special souvenir for the fans. The club produced some coins (see picture) that will commemorate the matches against Panathinaikos, VfB FRIEDRICHSHAFEN and CopraNordMeccanica PIACENZA in Pool E. "It is a novelty for the fans. I am sure they will be interested in buying such souvenirs" stresses Zdzislaw Grodecki. The coin will cost about eight €.
