Zonal Associations meeting in Vienna

News from the CEV

Vienna, Austria, June 25, 2010. CEV President André Meyer was extremely pleased to welcome to the Austrian capital city the representatives of the four Zonal Associations (BVA, EEVZA, MEVZA and NEVZA) established under the authority of CEV plus the Small Countries Division for the annual meeting organized in coincidence with the European Volleyball Gala.
Mr. Meyer did use this chance to recall the major developments resulting from the last FIVB Board of Administration, namely:
- the establishment of an FIVB Development Fund to be administered by a Steering Committee whose aim is to support new development projects worked out by the various National Federations or by the five Continental Confederations;
- the obligation for all Continental Confederations to create a Development Department;
- the opportunity for the Confederations to take over the responsibility to organize the continental qualifications for the 2014 FIVB World Championships, with the main goal being the registration of a maximum number of countries;
- the provision stating that a Coaching Commission is to be mandatory created and established in every single Continental Confederation;
- the organization of a clinic specifically conceived for the National Federations included in the categories 1 and 2 in order to help them in working out projects that may be funded or supported by FIVB and CEV. This seminar has been scheduled for next October 15 in Ljubljana (Slovenia), only 24 hours before the official opening of the XXXI CEV General Assembly.
The Zonal Associations as well as the Small Countries Division did then share their yearly reports; much attention was devoted to the presentation of the many activities that have been implemented in the various zones but also to the difficulties descending from the international financial crisis that did not spare also a few National Federations in Europe.
CEV President André Meyer expressed his satisfaction about the impressive work being currently carried out across the Zonal Associations and the SCD and did recall the absolute necessity, for any future General Assembly of such Associations, that every single affiliated National Federation to be represented there by its respective President.
