RUSSIAN MASTERS LIVE ON www.eurobeachtour.com
NESTEA European Championship Tour 2006
Luxembourg/Moscow,
June, 13, 2006. During the whole Russian Masters (15th to 18th June),
the third stop of the NESTEA European Championship Tour 2006, the below
mentioned site will provide you with the live results of each match
point by point.
The Russian Masters will be taking place at the 'Luzhniki Olympic Complex' in the Russian capital of Moscow, last year’s host of the European Championship Final.
Only a little more than a year has passed since Russia’s
beach volleyball professionals announced their ambition to not only
further establish themselves on the indoor court, but also among the
world’s elite in beach volleyball. The efforts to further develop the
open air edition in the most successful indoor volleyball nation are
already bearing fruit: At the Turkish Masters, the kick-off event of
this year’s NESTEA European Championship Tour, two Russian teams spiked
their way to the semi-finals. Roman Arkaev and Dmitry Barsouk in the
men’s tournament as well as Natalia Uryadova and Alexandra Shiryeva for
the women obtained the best beach volleyball results in the history of
the Russian Volleyball Federation.
The
extraordinary results are no fluke, but rather the product of hard work
during the winter. "We were preparing the beach volleyball season from
mid February to mid March with a training camp in Rio de Janeiro”,
reported Roman Arkaev. Different to their Western European competition,
the Russians don't train on the 'Copacabana' but prefer the 'Flamengo'.
They had tough training partners in Kais/Vesik fromEstonia and
Austria’s Doppler/Gartmayer. "Unfortunately, our federation cannot
afford the luxury of inviting top teams from Brazil as training
partners”, Arkaev proclaimed.
Even
though the upward trend is clearly visible Russia
needs the general professional structures for beach volleyball. Dmitry
Barsouk played for Dynamo KRASNODAR in the second Russian indoor league
prior to the Turkish Masters in Alanya. Consequently, he only had five
days to prepare for the sandy surface. Further, the duo have not yet a
full-time coach. Natalia Uryadova's season plan is similar to that of
her colleague Dmitry Barsouk, as she also plays indoors in the second
Russian league up until springtime.
The
efforts of improving the structures, thus closing the gap to the European
elite are tangible. The 100'000 Euro Russian Masters is set to take place from
15th to 18th June 2006 in Moscow.
"Thanks to the
Russian Masters in Moscow the sport of beach volleyball, the European
tournament series and our commercial partners all have the opportunity
to expand into the extremely important Eastern European market”,
Christian Scholbrock, Managing Director at the Zurich based agency
Global Sports Marketing (GSM), declared, "Our agreement with the
Russian Volleyball Federation promises Moscow to be the site of the
NESTEA European Championship Tour for several years. Reliable planning
with Moscow for establishing the Russian Masters in the Moscow sports
calendar as a yearly sports and entertainment event is very important
to us.”
The
Russian Masters 2006 will begin with the qualification matches in the women’s
and men’s tournament on Thursday morning at 9.00hrs local time. Four
qualifiers for the Main Draw in the women’s and men’s tournament will be
determined on four courts in the Luzhniki Olympic Complex in Moscow. Friday will feature
men’s and women’s Main Draw matches before the hot phase begins on Saturday at 17.00hrs with the semi-finals for women and men.
The men’s final is set for Sunday at 14.00hrs and the women’s final will tip-off at 17.00hrs. The winning teams each receive 8'500 Euros in prize money as well as valuable ranking points, which are important in the race for the bonus prize for the 'smart European Ranking Leader' to be awarded at the end of the season. The best teams of the CEV European Ranking each receive two 'smart forfour' from Tour Main Partner 'smart'.
