TENERIFE MARICHAL CAN’T AFFORD TO LOSE AGAINST AZERRAIL BAKU

Women's Indesit European Champions' League 2005/06

Tenerife, Spain, December 20, 2005. TENERIFE Marichal have to beat Azerrail BAKU to keep hopes of reaching the quarterfinals. The Spanish team won’t get another chance of making it to the next round if they don’t win all of their remaining matches in Pool B of the preliminary phase.

The former European Champions’ League champion will have to work hard to defeat BAKU, especially because the squad from Azerbaijan will try to secure their classification in this meeting. The clash, which will be taking place on Wednesday at 20.00hrs local time, is expected to be a great spectacle full of emotion.

The doctors of TENERIFE Marichal are trying to get Miki Golubovic fit as soon as possible but is still too early to know whether she is going to be ready to play in this match or not. In spite of this, Mauro Masacci will be able to count on all the rest of his players. The Italian coach has shown his concern about how to stop Natalya Mammadova, BAKU’s best player.

In addition, the team from the Canary Island is seriously lacking self-confidence due to their recent defeat by Hotel Cantur in the Spanish league. Obviously, this has been a shock for the white and blue group. On the contrary, BAKU will face this match encouraged by their latest triumph against KALISZ.

Hence, the supporters will play an important role in the Santiago Martin sports hall, having to cheer on TENERIFE to victory.

Referees appointed to this meeting are Ralph Barnstorf from Germany and Joep Van Iersel from the Netherlands. Supervisor is Sergey Titov from Russia.

Cannes, France, December 20, 2005. CANNES are impatiently waiting for their last match in 2005, which will oppose the team to LAS PALMAS, a nice gift for all the impassioned volleyball fans.

In the outward match on 30th November 2005 CANNES beat LAS PALMAS 3:1. However, Hotel Cantur is very well classified being one of the only teams (together with CANNES) to have taken BERGAMO to five sets.

Wednesday will be the time of decision between the two teams. RCC CANNES will have to win this match in order to take a great step towards the qualification for the play-off. However, the team is conscious that it will not be so easy in front of the Brazilian captain of Las Palmas Luciana Marques who made the victory for CANNES in the away match extremely difficult.

The Spanish team will arrive two days before the match, ready to face RCC in good shape.

The rest remains to be seen on Wednesday, 21st December 2005 at 19.00hrs local time in the Victories sports hall. in CANNES.
