INCREASE FROM FOUR TO SIX EVENTS
Nestea European Championship Tour 2006
Luxembourg, November 16, 2005. The calendar for the 2006 CEV Beach Volleyball season has been completed following a meeting between the CEV and their partner Global Sports Marketing (GSM), responsible for the promotion of the Nestea European Championship Tour, with the Nestea European Championship Final 2006 taking place from 24th to 27th August 2006 in The Hague (NED).
In presence of CEV president Mr. André Meyer, CEV senior vice president Mr. Philip Berben, CEV Executive Director Mr. Olivier Mottier, European Beach Volleyball Commission president Mr. Stefan Potyka and CEV Beach Volleyball coordinator Mr. Erik Schmidt, as well as GSM chairman Mr. Heinz Schurtenberger and GSM managing director Mr. Christian Scholbrock, the Nestea European Championship Tour 2006 dates have been confirmed.
Starting off with two tournaments in 2003, the Nestea European Championship Tour has been experiencing a continuous growth, staging a total six events in the coming season 2006.
Turkey will be host of the opening tournament from 18th to 21st May 2006, where the best European Beach Volleyball athletes will obtain their first opportunity of collecting CEV Ranking points and prize money, as well as gathering additional bonus points in order to be amongst the top elite vying for the smart season-end prize.
Next stop will be Germany, host of the Nestea European Championship Final 2004 in Timmendorfer Strand. This season however the tournament from 1st to 4th June 2006 will be held either in Hamburg or in Stuttgart.
The final three events preceding the Nestea European Championship Final in The Hague (NED) will take place in the established sites of Moscow (RUS), from 15th to 18th June 2006, Valencia (ESP) from 20th to 23rd July 2006 as well as Lucerne (SUI) from 5th to 8th August 2006.
The Dutch metropolis The Hague was chosen to host the crowning
finale from 24th to 27th August 2006 with 24 men’s and 24 women’s teams
determining the European Champions. “Den Haag”, as it is known to the
Dutch, is thus the fourth city, following Alanya (2003), Timmendorfer
Strand (2004) and Moscow (2005), to host the Nestea European
Championship Final under the responsibility of GSM.
In light of the Nestea European Championship Final a permanent
beach stadium will be built in Scheveningen (NED), the city in which
the European Volleyball Confederation (CEV) was officially founded in
1973 and where the continent’s best Beach Volleyball professionals will
uncover the European champions 33 years later.
