THIRD AND FOURTH PLACE FOR EUROPEAN TEAMS
FIVB World Grand Champions Cup 2005
Luxembourg, November 29, 2005. At the FIVB Grand Champions Cup 2005, which took place from 15th to 20th November 2005 for the women and from 22nd to 27th November 2005 for the men, the men’s 2005 European Champion Italy claimed the bronze medal, whilst the women’s European Champion from Poland finished fourth.The Brazilian teams were unbeatable with the men as well as the women boasting a 5-0 win-loss record, finally seizing the gold medals. The silver medals went to the men’s and women’s team from the USA, the Norceca Continental Champions.
World number two Italy claimed the bronze medal in the men’s competition after having beaten China, Egypt and Japan in straight sets, but losing against the USA (0:3) and Brazil (2:3). Alessandro Fei received the best spiker award, whilst his team colleague Mirko Corsano proved best libero of the event.
The women’s European Champion 2005 Poland started off well into the competition with a 3:2 victory over Japan, but ended up losing the remaining four matches to Brazil (0:3), USA (1:3), Korea (2:3) and China (1:3).
