ONLY DINAMO MOSCOW AND SISLEY TREVISO BOOK SECOND WIN

Men's Indesit European Champions' League 2005/06

Luxembourg, October 28, 2005. Only two teams participating in the men’s Indesit European Champions’ League succeeded to take a second consecutive victory after the second leg of the highest valued European club competition. In Pool B, Russian Dinamo MOSCOW booked their second win by overthrowing novice volleyball.cz KLADNO from the Czech Republic (3:0), whilst Italian Sisley TREVISO decided the five set thriller against French AS CANNES in their favour.

AS CANNES (FRA) vs. Sisley TREVISO (ITA)  Dinamo MOSCOW proved to be amongst the main contenders for a place on the Final Four podium in March during the second leg of the men’s Indesit European Champions’ League. Showing no mercy facing the Czech champion volleyball.cz KLADNO, the Russian formation took the match in three straight sets. Thanks to their second straight victory, Dinamo MOSCOW now lead Pool B.
Best player of the match was Russian national team player Semen Poltavsky with 14 points.

Still waiting to be crowned as an Indesit European Champions’ League titleholder, Italian Sisley TREVISO struggled through their two Pool C matches. After having overcome German evivo DÜREN last week, the Italian star team also needed five sets against French champion AS CANNES. The 3’000 French spectators couldn’t prevent the Italians from serving more powerful than their opponents, seizing the tiebreak 15-12.
Sisley TREVISO spiker Alessandro Fei was the best scorer with 19 points. On the French side, Marek Novotny and Christophe Meneau both booked 16 points.
“It was a difficult match”, stated Sisley TREVISO coach Daniele Bagnoli said, “This win was very important given that AS CANNES is a very tough opponent.”
“Sisley TREVISO won due to their experience”, AS CANNES coach Laurent Tillie stated.

Hypo Tirol INNSBRUCK (AUT) celebrate their first victory in the Indesit European Champions' League
Making their debut in the Indesit European Champions’ League last year Hypo Tirol INNSBRUCK, the newly crowned Austrian Champion, lost all of their eight matches. This year, Hypo Tirol INNSBRUCK were finally able to celebrate victory when the Austrian team defeated Dutch rookie Ortec ROTTERDAM Nesselande 3:2 in Pool A. The Dutch formation hoped to win in Innsbruck in order to have a chance of reaching the next round, but Hypo Tirol INNSBRUCK made an end to the Dutch dreams. Defending a match point against them in the fifth set, the Austrians managed to claim the tiebreak 17-15.

After this week’s action Dinamo MOSCOW and Sisley TREVISO are the only two teams with two victories on their account. Six other teams also remain undefeated, but have yet to play their second match. Polish BOT Skra BELCHATOW, one of the six undefeated teams, was responsible for a major upset in Pool D, defeating two times Indesit European Champions’ League champion Lokomotiv BELGOROD from Russia.
In Pool A, Belgian Knack Randstad ROESELARE and Greek Iraklis THESSALONIKI both won their only match played so far, same as French defending champion TOURS VB and Greek Olympiacos PIRAEUS in Pool B. In Pool C, Belgian Noliko MAASEIK remain undefeated.

Action in the men’s Indesit European Champions’ League continues on Tuesday with the highlight of the week between TOURS VB and Dinamo MOSCOW.
