FIVB World League 2006

Luxembourg/Lausanne, September 28, 2005. With 20 million USD in prize money for the 2006 Volleyball World League all national teams have fulfilled the required conditions to enter the season scheduled to start on 14th July 2006. The first round matches will stage USA vs Poland, Japan vs Serbia Montenegro, Argentina vs Brasil, Finland vs Portugal, Russia vs France, China vs Italy, Korea vs Cuba and Bulgaria vs Egypt.

The complete 2006 World League calendar has been finalised on 27th September 2005 by the World League Bureau who also announced that the National Men’s Volleyball Team of Finland replaced the Greek National Men’s team after the World League Bureau could not obtain the Greek confirmation of all the conditions required as member of the World League Council.

The World League Regulations require the delivery of all documents and agreements needed for a professional organisation at the latest on the occasion of the World League Council Meeting which Greece failed to do. After a supplementary deadline was granted to the Hellenic Volleyball Federation the conditions were still not fulfilled, which obliged the WL Bureau to replace the Hellenic National Team with Finland who had previously completed all requisites.
