GERMANY WANTS REVENGE AGAINST FINLAND
European League 2005
Luxembourg, June 1, 2005. Less than one week after their meeting on the occasion of the important World Championship 2006 pre-qualification the men's national teams from Germany and Finland will come together again: In the first League Round of the European League 2005 the selection of the German Volleyball Federation welcomes the guests from northern Europe on 3rd and 4th June eager to take revenge for the 1:3 defeat in Tampere. However, with captain Stefan Hübner, setter Frank Dehne, outside hitter Mark Siebeck and middle blocker Norbert Walter four experienced players are missing. Hübner faced troubles with his shins following the matches in Finland and will take a break like Norbert Walter, who is still curing a muscle fibre rupture. Dehne and Siebeck were sent on holiday by national coach Stelian Moculescu. The U-21 national players Patrick Steuerwald, Sebastian Schwarz (both Zurich Team VC Olympia BERLIN) and Max Günthör (VfB FRIEDRICHSHAFEN), all newcomers to the men's selection, will be the replacements. “The elder players need a break in order to be as fit as a fiddle for the World Championship qualification in Italy”, Moculescu explains his decision, “which is our goal with the European League being a perfect preparation for it.”
Shortly before the begin of the European League 2005 journalists
will be invited to a press conference in the ARENA Friedrichshafen on
2nd June at 12.00 hrs. National coach Stelian Moculescu as well as two
national players will be there to answer the questions.
The German squad: Simon Tischer, Jochen Schöps, Georg Wiebel, Max
