Women's Top Teams Cup 2004/05
Turin, Italy, March 13, 2005. One day after the host Greek team of Olympiacos PIRAEUS became champion of the men’s Austrian Airlines Top Teams Cup on Saturday, 12 March 2005 the organiser of the women’s Top Teams Cup 2004/05 Final Four, Pallavolo CHIERI, proved a number too strong for the three guest teams from Eczacibasi ISTANBUL (TUR), Eburon TONGEREN (BEL) and TSV Bayer 04 LEVERKUSEN (GER).Striving through the whole competition, including three pool matches in the League Round, the quarterfinal match, the semifinal match and the final, without losing a single set, Italian Pallavolo CHIERI definitely deserved to take this prestigious title home to Italy, beating German TSV Bayer 04 LEVERKUSEN in just over an hour.
The bronze medal went to Eczacibasi ISTANBUL from Turkey who defeated Belgian Eburon TONGEREN in three straight sets.
The title in the men’s Top Teams Cup competition, which is sponsored by Austrian Airlines, was seized by Olympiacos PIRAEUS from Greece who beat Dutch Ortec VC Nesselande ROTTERDAM in the final in straight sets. In the bronze medal match Czech Dukla LIBEREC managed to come back from 2:1 sets down against Omniworld ALMERE (NED) in order to win the tiebreak 15-6 in their favour.
The European Cups competitions final phase will conclude in Tenerife
(ESP) from 19-20 March 2005 with the women’s Indesit European
Champions’ League, whilst the strongest men’s club teams will battle
for the Indesit European Champions’ League 2004/05 title in
Thessaloniki (GRE) from 26-27 March 2005.
