EIGHT TEAMS QUALIFY FOR BAKU
European Qualification Tournament for FIVB World Grand Prix 2006
Luxembourg, March 3, 2005. The teams participating in the European Qualification Tournament for the 2006 FIVB World Grand Prix, which will take place from 26-31 July 2005 in Baku, Azerbaijan, are Poland, Turkey, Germany, Netherlands, Russia, Bulgaria, Romania and Azerbaijan with Italy being directly qualified for the 2006 FIVB World Grand Prix.The best seven ranked teams of the 2003 Senior Women’s European Championship, as well as the organiser of the European Qualification Tournament for the 2006 FIVB World Grand Prix, namely Azerbaijan, will take part in this competition. Next to Poland (2003 European champion), Turkey (2003 European runner-up), Germany (2003 European bronze), the Netherlands (4th), Russia (5th), Bulgaria (7th), 2003 European Championship’s 8th place finisher Romania is the lucky “seventh” team who moves up due to Italy (6th place in 2003 European Championships) being directly qualified as host organiser for the 2006 FIVB World Grand Prix.
The eight countries eligible for Baku (AZE) will be divided into two preliminary pools, where each team plays the other in a single round robin. The two best ranked teams in each pool will continue to the Semi-finals and Finals, which will finally decide the three captors of the empty spots in the 2006 FIVB World Grand Prix.
