TRIBUTE TO THE BEST PLAYERS OF THE IECL LEAGUE ROUND

Indesit European Champions League 2004/05

Luxembourg, February 10, 2005. On the occasion of the home matches in the playoff round of the Men’s and Women’s Indesit European Champions League 2004/05, the CEV awards were handed out to the most successful players of the IECL League Round, which took place from November 2004 to January 2005. The player awards are sponsored by INDESIT, the title sponsor of this prestigious competition for the fourth year running, specialising in electrical appliances.

Before the German team VfB FRIEDRICHSHAFEN defeated Greek Panathinaikos ATHENS, 4’200 spectators witnessed the award presentation for Bogdan Jalowietzki as the best server as well as for the best attacker Jose Joao Miguel Sequeira from Portugal. Unfortunately, the captain of the German team could not prove his serving qualities as he sat on the bench recovering from a flu, whilst Jose Joao demonstrated another great performance on court.
Aon hotVolleys VIENNA Jussi Heino was nominated best libero of the League Round in the Austrian capital’s Budocenter, where his team unluckily lost soon after to Italian star team Sisley TREVISO, who have already claimed ten European Cup titles in their 17-year volleyball club history.
Preceding TOURS VB’s 3:1 victory over Copra Volley PIACENZA from Italy, French Hubert Henno was honoured best receiver. In 2003/04 Hubert Henno received the IECL League Round’s best libero award.

With only one women’s match taking place on Wednesday on the Canary Island of Gran Canaria between Hotel Cantur LAS PALMAS and Italian Sant’Orsola Asystel NOVARA, merely one of the seven female awards was presented. Hotel Cantur LAS PALMAS Vesna Tomasevic collected the IECL League Round’s best server award, but unfortunately had to accept her team’s close tiebreak defeat against the Italian guest later on.

The awarded players will all receive their trophy during their team’s home match in the play-off round. Players from the teams already eliminated will be awarded during one of their team’s home matches in the national league of their club.

Interview with Vesna Tomasevic (Hotel Cantur LAS PALMAS / ESP)

How does it feel to receive this award?

I am very honoured and thankful for receiving an award which emphasises one’s individual effort,
contributing to the whole team’s success. I am very happy and hope that victory will stay on our side.

What is your aspiration for the future?

I am still young (23 years old) and have many things to learn. This tough competition will surely give me
a lot of valuable experience, helping to improve my game as a receiver.

What is the secret of Hotel Cantur’s success?

Team work, effort as well as the determination we have to make history and get as far as possible in this
important competition. We were not amongst the favourite teams, but we have worked hard.

What do you expect for the match against Novara?

We know that Novara is one of the best teams in this competition and victory will not be easy, but if we
concentrate on the next match and show our best game we will be able to beat them in Italy.
