AON HOTVOLLEYS VIENNA AND DINAMO MOSCOW REACH NEXT ROUND

Men's Indesit European Champions' League 2004/05

Luxembourg, December 17, 2004. Two teams have already secured a place in the play-off round after the seventh leg of the Men’s Indesit European Champions’ League. The 3:2 victory over Serbian Vojvodina Novolin NOVI SAD put Austrian Aon hotVolleys VIENNA into the next round even with three more legs to play in the league round of the world’s strongest club competition. Russian Dinamo MOSCOW booked its sixth straight victory (3:0 against Italian Copra Volley PIACENZA) and is also sure of reaching the next stage.

Darko Antunovic attacking for Aon hotVolley VIENNA in their sixth league round match facing Vojvodina Novolin NOVI SAD The Austrian champion Aon hotVolleys VIENNA, one of the few participants who have taken part in the world’s strongest club competition since it began six years ag, is playing strongly in this season’s Men’s Indesit European Champions’ League, already sure to have reached the next round. The battle against Vojvodina Novolin NOVI SAD wasn’t easy for Aon hotVolley VIENNA. The Serbian team came extremely close to a victory in the match watched by more than 2,000 spectators, but as in many matches this year, the Austrian team didn’t give up and clinched the victory by winning the fifth set tiebreaker. Vojvodina Novolin NOVI SAD attacker Milos Ateljevic was the best scorer with 30 points. For Aon hotVolleys VIENNA, Darko Antunovic made 26 points. “We came here to win”, Antunovic said. “We were very motivated, making use of our opportunities and have big ambitions in the Indesit European Champions’ League.” The victory put Aon hotVolleys VIENNA on top of the leader board of Pool B. As the best three teams of each league round pool will proceed to the play-off round, the Austrian team is already sure of playing in this round. Whatever Aon hotVolleys VIENNA do during the next three legs, the team is sure of finishing amongst the best three in this pool.
Dinamo MOSCOW saw itself in the same position in Pool D. The Russian team booked its sixth victory and is still one of the two undefeated teams. The other, Greek Iraklis THESSALONIKI, won for the fifth time in a row. Dinamo MOSCOW outplayed Italian Copra Volley PIACENZA for the second time within just over a week. In the Russian capital, the Pool D leader won the clash in three straight sets. Taras Khtey was the leading scorer with 15 points. “We have three goals this season”, Dinamo MOSCOW coach Boris Kolchin said. “We want to win the Russian national title, the Russian cup and even more important the Indesit European Champions’ League.” For Copra Volley PIACENZA it will be very hard now to reach the next round. The Italian team, on paper one of the favorites to win the title, lost for the fifth time.
Play in the Men’s Indesit European Champions’ League continues in the first week of January.
