Belgrade, 30 October, 2004. CEV President André Meyer as well as the honorary guests present at the Drawing of Lots for the 2005 Men's European Championship were invited by Boris Tadic, the President of the Republic of Serbia.

Mr. Tadic, who was only just recently elected, spoke openly with Mr. Meyer, Mr. Walter Veltroni, the Lord Mayor of Rome, and Mr. Nenad Bogdanovic, the Lord Mayor of Belgrade, about the perfect organisation of Europe's leading volleyball event. “This championship will be at the top of my 2005 agenda, providing an excellent opportunity for promoting not only the sport of volleyball but also the cultural values that Serbia and Italy have in common”, Mr. Tadic said. “I would like to thank the CEV for entrusting the organisation of this event to two countries for the first time in history.” Mr. Meyer ensured that the CEV will continue in bringing European countries closer together by means of designating more than one country to the organisation of future European volleyball competitions: “It is the joint effort of several countries that bring success to events and the CEV supports this strategy of collaboration, aiming to unite European nations through the sport of volleyball. Belgium and Luxembourg will be the next two European countries working together in volleyball hosting the Women's Senior European Championships 2007."
