REFEREEING COMMISSION MEETS IN BRNO

European Refereeing Seminar

Luxembourg, May 19, 2004. A record number of 37 national federations represented by 47 participants were present at the European Refereeing Seminar held in Brno (CZE) from May 13-16.

The three-day seminar, which took place during the final days of the Women’s Spring Cup in Brno (CZE), raised an array of points with the emphasis being on the discussion of rules.
Dr. Jan REK, president of the European Refereeing Commission (ERC), provided the meeting’s attendees with a valuable general outline and analysis of the previous season. Videos were demonstrated in order to observe last season’s matches with the purpose of evaluating referees’ performance, collaboration and skills.
With the support of Hungarian László HERPAI, member of the FIVB Rules of the Game Commission, an ample discussion on rules followed seeing the presentation of the background of last year’s rule modifications as well as the new projects that are currently in preparation. Furthermore, the guidelines for the international score sheet were taken into scrutiny followed by a theoretical test on the rules and the score sheet.
