Urnaut and Mlakar best Slovenian players in 2017
News from the National Federations

Ljubljana, Slovenia, January 3, 2018. The Slovenian Volleyball Federation awarded during the holiday season the best players for 2017. Tine Urnaut received the award for the best male Volleyball player, while Iza Mlakar won the respective award for females.

Urnaut, the captain of the Slovenian national team, currently playing for Italian club Azimut MODENA, won the award for the second time, while this was the first title for Mlakar, a member of Slovenian reigning national champions Nova KBM Branik MARIBOR as well as of the Slovenian senior and U23 national teams.

The head coach of Slovenian vice-champions Calcit KAMNIK, Gašper Ribič received the award for the best coach of a men’s team. Bruno Najdič who was at the helm of Nova KBM Branik MARIBOR when they completed a domestic double – taking both the national league and national cup – in the 2016/2017 season won the award for the best coach of a women’s team.

The Slovenian Volleyball Federation presented the awards during the Final Four tournament of the Derby Slovenian Cup held in Hoče at the end of December. Nova KBM Branik MARIBOR claimed their fourth consecutive title in the competition, while ACH Volley LJUBLJANA took the crown after two years of domination of Calcit KAMNIK.
