CEV President pleased with high-profile talks in Switzerland
News from the CEV

Bern, Switzerland, December 6, 2017. CEV President Aleksandar Boričić travelled earlier this week to Bern to have some high-profile meetings with local sports authorities and the highest representatives of Swiss Volley.

The agenda included a meeting with the President of the Swiss Olympic Committee, Mr Jürg Stahl with a focus on the development of Snow Volleyball and the potential organisation of an exhibition event in conjunction with the 2019 edition of the World Economic Forum in Davos. All parties shared these same plans in a meeting with Mr Guy Parmelin, Member of the Swiss Federal Council and Head of the Federal Department of Defence, Civil Protection and Sports, i.e. the highest sports authority in the country.

The CEV President, the President and CEO of Swiss Volley, Nora Willi and Werner Augsburger, plus representatives from some of the top Swiss clubs and the Swiss national league reviewed the current situation of club competitions in the alpine country, especially taking into account the standpoint of those clubs participating in the European Cups.

Swiss Volley briefed the CEV President about their Strategy 2024, the long-term vision they have developed to grow the game in Switzerland. The development of Volleyball at all levels was one of the key items discussed with Mr Boričić, with Switzerland putting an emphasis – as much as the CEV does – on inspiring and teaching children with the help of their coaches. To this extent, the CEV and Swiss Volley share the same strategic vision, especially following the launch of the CEV’s “Volleyball at School” project earlier this year.

Later in the day, the CEV President paid a visit to the High Performance and Training Centre run by Swiss Volley in Bern, where Mr Boričić had the opportunity to talk to some of Switzerland’s top Beach Volleyball players, who are currently busy with their preparations ahead of the 2018 season.

Finally, a busy day in the Swiss capital included a meeting with the organisers of the annual Montreux Volley Masters, an elite women’s invitational tournament, whose next edition is due to take place in early September 2018.
