Stephanie Niemer: “I had even better games”

Against Markopoulo you scored 26 points, including 17 aces. Was this your best game ever? Do you remember any other time where you finished the game with such impressive stats?

I do not believe the match against Markopoulo was my best match. I try not to measure games by statistics, but more by the feeling on the court with my teammates. There is always room for improvement in each skill of my game, but it happened to be a good day for serving.

How does it feel playing for Olympiacos?

I enjoy playing for Olympiacos. It is a well-respected organisation and they are very professional.  I love the girls on the team and we push each other to be better at practice every day.

To whom do you dedicate the MVP award?

Volleyball is a team sport, so anything good that is happening on the court is a team’s effort. This award belongs also to my teammates and coaching staff for trusting me.

After seven games, what is your opinion about the Greek women’s national league?

The women’s league in Greece has a lot of potential. There are a good amount of young players in the league and I think if they continue to improve their skills, the league will become stronger as a whole.

Last year Olympiacos made it to the Challenge Cup finals. Do you think this year will be better in Europe for your team?

Olympiacos has added new players this season (myself included) and playing in the CEV Challenge Cup will be a good measure to where we stand internationally. We will face new opponents this year and I hope we can reach the Finals this time around and win the Challenge Cup.

What are your personal goals?

My personal goal has always been to be a positive influence on the court. I want to be able to make my teammates better while playing next to them.  When teammates can make each other better, success will follow.
