Martin Kraščenič elected President of Slovak Volleyball Federation
News from the National Federations

Poprad, Slovakia, December 4, 2017. The Slovak Volleyball Federation (SVF) have a new President, Mr Martin Kraščenič following their XII General Assembly held on Sunday in the city of Poprad. Mr Kraščenič will be leading the Slovakian Volleyball family for the next four years.

The 45-year-old former Volleyball player, club President at reigning national champions VKP Bystrina SPU NITRA, is a successful businessman and a father to three daughters. He takes over the reins of Slovakian Volleyball from CEV Vice-President and member of the FIVB Board of Administration Lubor Halanda, who had been at the helm of the Slovak Federation since 2005 and decided not to seek an additional term. Mr Halanda will nevertheless remain close to the SVF following his appointment as Honorary President of the Slovak Volleyball Federation by the delegates in attendance.

Mr Kraščenič, one of three candidates running for the presidency, received 28 of the votes cast by the 55 delegates attending the General Assembly and therefore emerged victorious right after the first round. The remaining candidates, Igor Prieložný and Richard Nemec received 24 and 3 votes, respectively.

“It is a big honour for me, and I want to thank you all for voting for me. I spent a lot of time to build a successful campaign at the expense of my family and business and I am glad that it was not in vain. I want to continue the good work made by the Slovak Volleyball Federation under Mr Lubor Halanda. I respect Mr Halanda and I will cooperate with him, because he is a well-respected person in Volleyball circles all over the world and also in the political and sports scene in Slovakia,” said Kraščenič after his successful election in Poprad.

Mr Halanda was satisfied with the outcome of the General Assembly. “I am not satisfied only because Mr Kraščenič was ‘my candidate’, but because I am sure that he is the right man at the right place. He is a very successful manager and he is the ability to connect people. This is very important. I congratulate Mr Kraščenič and wish him good luck,” Mr Halanda said.
