Bulgarian Volleyball family pay tribute to Ilia Iliev for 40 years in the sport
News from the National Federations

Sofia, Bulgaria, November 15, 2017. On Tuesday, Mr Ilia Iliev had his last game as a Volleyball official since earlier this year he turned 75. He was acting as the Supervisor of the matchup between Levski SOFIA and Neftohimic 2010 BURGAS (3-2). Mr Iliev received a plaque from the President of the Bulgarian Refereeing Commission, Mr Pencho Angelov, for his great work in helping Bulgarian Volleyball referees with their development and for growing the game for the past 40 years.

On top of this, Mr Iliev received a team jersey of Levski with the number 1 and his name on it from the former captain of the Bulgarian men’s national team Vladimir Nikolov, who is the current President and head coach of Levski as well.

The climax of the ceremony came right after the match, when the two acting referees approached and congratulated Mr Iliev, presenting him with a shirt featuring his name and the following script: “75 YEARS ARE NOT ENOUGH” on the front side and “VOLLEYBALL REFEREE LEGEND” on the back.

Right after that, an emotional Iliev said that he was honoured and flattered about all this attention and humbly admitted that his last match went well and featured top-level refereeing.
