Teams from Denmark and Norway dominated pool stage of NEVZA Club Championships
News from the Zonal Associations

Copenhagen, Denmark, November 6, 2017. As many as 11 women’s and nine men’s teams crossed swords this past weekend in the pool stage of the NEVZA Club Championships, aka NCC. After 24 exciting matches, the teams participating in the final round emerged to continue their quest for glory early next year.

In the women’s tournament, the reigning NCC champions Holte IF hosted Pool A, where they faced ToppVolley Norge, TIK Viking and Danish Volleyliga rivals Amager.

Holte did not show any kind of ‘hospitality’ when taking to the court and won three times 3-0, which naturally put them right on top of the pool and secured them a direct ticket to the final stage of the competition.

The same scenario unfolded in Pool B in Brøndby. Last year’s finalists proved themselves as the strongest team in the pool and won 3-0 against Afturelding and 3-1 against Oslo Volley.

Therefore, Brøndby are through to the final round. The two Danish teams will take there on Førde VK, who won Pool C and Oslo Volley as the best among the runners-up across all pools.

The final round is due to take place on January 19-21, with the organisers still to be confirmed.

Norway dominate men’s pool stage

In the men’s competition, TIF Viking were unstoppable in Pool A, where the Norwegian side won 3-1 against arch-rivals Førde and 3-0 against Hvidovre, thereby finishing first in the group and qualifying for the finals.

In Pool B, Denmark’s Marienlyst claimed the top spot following a 3-0 against Afturelding and a 3-1 victory in their matchup with Randaberg.

From Pool C, BK Tromsø are through to the final round after two 3-0 wins against Ishøj and IBB Polonia London.

Randaberg VBK emerged as the best runners-up across all pools to progress to the finals as well – so as many as three Norwegian teams will be vying for the title.

The final round will be contested on January 26-28, with the venue to be confirmed in due time.
