NEVZA Beach Volleyball Tour heads to Göteborg
News from the Zonal Associations

Göteborg, Sweden, November 2, 2017. The city of Göteborg is getting ready to host the fourth NEVZA Beach Volleyball tournament of the year, as the so-called NEVZA Beach Sweden will take place from Friday to Sunday in the world’s largest indoor Beach Volleyball arena.

The 2017 NEVZA Beach Volleyball season continues as the tour moves on to Göteborg, Sweden. Göteborg Beachvolley Club and the Swedish Volleyball Federation are happy and honoured to host a NEVZA Beach Volleyball tournament for the fifth year in a row. Some of Northern Europe’s most talented and competitive teams are travelling to Göteborg to fight for the top honours at the Beach Center, the world’s largest indoor Beach Volleyball arena.

"It means a great deal to us to organise this tournament and to be able to invite high-level international teams and players to our facility. It is a great opportunity for both Swedish players in general and our own “GBC-family” in particular to compete against highly skilled opponents,” said Anders Nordahl, Göteborg Beachvolley Club’s Promotion & Marketing Director.

The event will feature men’s and women’s teams from Denmark, England, Finland, Norway, Latvia, Cyprus, and Sweden. As many as thirteen Swedish teams will participate, several of them playing on home soil.

Martin Appelgren and Simon Boman are two of them: “Playing at home at the Beach Center makes everything a whole lot easier. Everything from preparations to playing an actual game is a completely different thing. You know the arena, the facility and the people from inside and out. The conditions are therefore as good as they can be. We aim at reaching the semi-finals at least, but there are many good teams travelling to Göteborg this weekend. There will be a close race for sure. It is hard to predict the outcome, but I would like to express a note of warning regarding the Latvians Rihards Finsters and Aleksandrs Solovejs. They finished second at the CEV Satellite in Baku a couple of weeks ago,” said Appelgren.

Göteborg Beachvolley Club’s Fanny Lindström and Lisa Sundberg are among eight Swedish women's teams who will compete in Göteborg. They clinched a fourth place when the CEV Continental Tour visited Oslo and Norway in early September. Lindström/Sundberg now hope to top that result in front of family, friends and teammates.

“To play a NEVZA tournament at home in Göteborg is for sure a special thing. It is both exciting and a little nerve tickling at the same time. We want to reach the same level as we did in Oslo. The key for us is to believe in ourselves. We have to challenge both our opponents and ourselves. We are looking forward to getting going and hope that we can treat the home crowd with some entertaining Beach Volleyball,” they said.
