‘Land of Fire’ poised to host 2017 women’s EuroVolley
2017 CEV Volleyball European Championship - Women

Baku, Azerbaijan, August 2, 2017. The President of the Azerbaijan Volleyball Federation Javid Gurbanov recently had a meeting with members of the Organising Committee of the 2017 women’s EuroVolley as the countdown continues to the historic tournament that Azerbaijan and their neighbours from Georgia will co-host in late September this year.

“Azerbaijan has successfully hosted a number of major international competitions and events but the women’s EuroVolley will be some kind of an examination for us since Volleyball is one of the most popular sports in Europe,” Mr Gurbanov said. “We will be co-hosting this tournament together with our neighbours from Georgia. Azerbaijan will host three of the four preliminary pools, as well as all matches from the Playoffs up to the finals. The matches will be televised in more than 80 countries around the world and as a result, we want to deliver a championship of the highest level,” he continued.

The Vice President of the Azerbaijan Volleyball Federation and head coach of the women’s national team, Faig Garayev expressed his feelings and expectations ahead of the event too. “Of course we want to achieve the best possible results when competing on home soil. CEV officials have recently visited Baku and Ganja/Göygöl for a couple of test matches featuring players from the national team. The Azerbaijan Volleyball Federation continue working hard ahead of this great event, which will be the largest Volleyball party ever held in our country.”

“We checked the Baku National Gymnastics Arena and Olympic Complex in Göygöl,” Mrs Nargiz Ismayilova added on behalf of the Organising Committee. “The matches we hosted there were an opportunity to test all technical equipment, the challenge system as well as the general organisation of the event. Last week we organised a Volleyball festival in Baku and many fans turned out and had a good time with players of the national team. We have started selling tickets to attend EuroVolley matches and things are moving forward according to our plans.”
