Danish darlings claim four out of top 10 NEVZA seeds on home sand in Odense
News from the Zonal Associations

Odense, Denmark, June 8, 2017. Hosts Denmark are strongly represented with as many as eight teams participating in the NEVZA women’s zonal Beach Volleyball tournament which takes place in Odense June 9 to 11.

The red and white Danish colours are not only strong in numbers, but also when it comes to the home teams’ status looking at the entry lists and respective seeds. There are indeed Danish names on seed 4, 5, 6, and 7 while two Norwegian tandems and an English team occupy the top three spots of the entry list.

The best ranked team among the Danes are Helle Søndergård and Simone Okholm Hansen (pictured). The fourth-seeded Danish ladies are looking forward to stepping on to the Funen sand: “We are super excited before the first NEVZA tournament of the year, where we get the opportunity to cross swords with teams from the other Nordic countries,” they say.

”We have worked a lot on our interaction lately and we are looking forward to testing ourselves and seeing how far we have come in our development,” Søndergård and Okholm Hansen stress.

”We hope there will be many spectators in Odense, so that all the Danish teams will get an extra push in the right direction while playing at home,” they conclude.

Cecilie Køllner Olsen and Lærke Mygind Grønfeldt are the fifth-seeded team of the tournament, Line Trans Hansen and Maria Elisabeth Tyndeskov take the next spot in the entry lists, while Sara Stief and Frederikke Schade Jensen are the no. 7 team in Odense.

Besides these couples, Denmark have four more teams set to compete in the NEVZA event.

The Danes will be taking on six Norwegian teams, one from England, eight from Sweden and one from Belgium. The latter are in following a change to the NEVZA regulations for this season, which now allow for a team from outside the NEVZA region to receive a wild card and compete in such zonal events.

In total, 24 teams are ready to take to the sand in Odense. Click here to see the complete entry list.
