Czech Republic hope to forget World Championship setback with World League campaign
News from the National Federations

Prague, Czech Republic, June 1, 2017. After failing to qualify to the 2018 FIVB Volleyball Men’s World Championship while playing on home soil in Karlovy Vary, the Czech national team will try to make amends for this setback when participating in Group 2 of the 2017 FIVB Volleyball World League.

Their campaign starts this weekend in Seoul where they will be playing the national teams of Korea, Finland and Slovenia before hosting a second tournament in Ceske Budejovice, where the Czechs will be trying to use the home-court advantage when taking on Egypt, the Netherlands and Portugal. After that, the Czech Republic will travel to The Hague to play there the Netherlands, Korea and Slovakia from June 16-18.

Miguel Angel Falasca, the head coach of the Czech team, said that even though the World Championship qualification was rather unsuccessful, his team is willing to perform well in the World League. Middle blocker Marek Beer commented: “Unfortunately, we didn’t reach our goal in Karlovy Vary since we did not finish at least second in the pool, which would have secured us a spot in the next round of qualifications. Now it’s time to forget this tournament because we have to concentrate on the World League. We want to be successful and we hope to produce a better performance than what we showed at the World Championship qualification.”
