Czech Volleyball family celebrates players, coaches and teams of the year!
News from the National Federations

Prague, Czech Republic, May 16, 2017. The members of the Czech Volleyball family –players, coaches, clubs and referees – convened on Friday night at the Semafor Theatre in Prague for the annual Volleyball gala hosted by the Czech Volleyball Federation moderated by Petr Svěcený. It was an opportunity to award many outstanding players and personalities, and to celebrate, inter alia, the historic feat achieved by the U19 men’s national team coached by Jiří Zach, who won gold at the European Championship held in Hungary and Slovakia in late April.

Traditionally, the most anticipated moment came with the announcement relating to the winners of the award for the Czech Volleyball players of the year, with the distinction going to Jan Štokr and Michaela Mlejnková – who played for Italy’s TRENTINO Diatec and Germany’s Allianz MTV STUTTGART during the 2016-2017 season.

The prize for the best players in the Czech UNIQA Extraliga went to Filip Křesťan (VK KLADNO) and Petra Kojdová (TJ OSTRAVA). Milan Fortuník, who was at the helm of VK KLADNO as they won silver in the men’s national league, received the award for the Coach of the Year. Zdeněk Pommer jr. received that same distinction in the women’s division after taking the same honour last year while working for TJ OSTRAVA.

As for Beach Volleyball, rising stars Ondřej Perušič and David Schweiner received the award for the men’s Team of the Year, with 2016 Olympians Markéta Sluková and Barbora Hermannová obviously taking the same honour in the women’s category.
Matyáš Džavoronok/Jiří Sedlák and U18 European champions Martina Maixnerová/Marie Sára Štochlová topped the charts for boys and girls, respectively. Jan Malina and Erik Nezhoda received the awards for the best youth coaches.

CZU PRAHA and Královo Pole BRNO received the honours for the best teams in the boys’ and girls’ divisions, respectively. The award for the best Czech Volleyball referee went to Martin Hudik as Martin Tichý and Jindřich Weiss were the recipients of the Fair Play Award.
