2017 edition of Balkan Kids Festival crowned with success in Podgorica
News from the Zonal Associations

Podgorica, Montenegro, May 14, 2017. The 2017 edition of the Balkan Kids Festival took place on Saturday, May 13 in Podgorica with participation of as many as 120 children from 10 countries across the Balkan region. On top of this, 400 young players – thus accounting for more than 40 teams – from the Jugopetrol EKO Mini Volleyball league participated in the festival as well, together with many fans and passers-by, thus crowning the event with success.

The organisers set up three Volleyball courts at Independence Square in Podgorica and next to following the performance of young players from 10 members of the Balkan Volleyball Association (BVA), the fans could meet with Volleyball legends such as 2000 Olympic champions Vladimir Grbic and Zoran Gajic. A number of former members of the national team such as Srdjan Popovic and Vladimir Rackovic and current Volleyball stars such as Tatjana Bokan and Ksenija Ivanovic did attend the festival as well.

All participants received gold medals awarded by the President of the Volleyball Federation of Montenegro (OSCG), Mr Cvetko Pajkovic, Volleyball legend Vladimir Grbic and Tatjana Bokan, the captain of the Montenegrin women’s national team.

A sightseeing tour of Podgorica took place upon completion of the festival, thus involving all participants.

On the eve of the event, i.e. on Friday night, all participants joined the traditional welcome dinner organised at Odzaklija tavern in cooperation with the Tourist Office of the Montenegrin capital. Mr Pajkovic used this as an opportunity to welcome the young players from the Balkan region: “I am happy that you all came to Podgorica for the event; I wish you a successful tournament and hope you can travel back home with many nice memories from your stay in Podgorica and in Montenegro,” he said.

Zoran Gajic, the President of the Volleyball Federation of Serbia and former coach of the Yugoslav national team, attended the dinner as well together with Montenegro’s Volleyball legend Igor Vusurovic – an Olympic gold medallist from Sydney 2000. The young players had the opportunity to introduce to all in attendance the country they come from and were due to represent at the Kids Festival – and they successfully coped with this task.

The Volleyball Federation of Montenegro would like to thank the Capital City of Podgorica, the Secretariat of Culture and Sport, the Podgorica Tourist Organisation and the National Tourism Organisation of Montenegro as well as the Association of Volleyball Referees of Montenegro for their help in the successful delivery of the Balkan Kids Festival.
