Women's SCD Beach Zonal event coming up in Edinburgh this weekend
News from the Zonal Associations

Edinburgh, Scotland, May 12, 2017. Scottish Volleyball will play host to a SCD Beach Volleyball Zonal Event from May 12-14 alongside the popular Scottish Student Beach Volleyball Tournament at Portobello Beach, Edinburgh.

With the news of Beach Volleyball’s involvement in the 2018 Commonwealth Games, the SCD Zonal Events have allowed Scottish athletes to have a platform in which to compete on the international stage close to home with the added bonus of much needed FIVB Ranking Points.

The qualification process for the Gold Coast games has not been announced yet, but the athletes will need exposure to international level competition over a short period while picking up those points, which can help move them through the CEV and FIVB ranking lists.

The organisers welcome back successful pairing from the FIVB World Tour Lynne Beattie and Melissa Coutts (pictured). They have a busy summer ahead and will be hoping to take maximum points, which will help them potentially make some main draws at the CEV and FIVB ranking events they have entered.

The tournament will also feature the Youth Commonwealth Games and Youth Continental Cup pairings experiencing another international Beach Volleyball tournament before their trips to Bahamas and Cyprus.

Denmark, Luxembourg and Ireland will be providing the international competition for the home teams.

Scotland is happy to show the depth they now have in both Beach National Team squads with more players than ever enjoying the opportunity to represent their country in both genders at this tournament.

The full schedule/matches can be found here below.

Friday 12th May – Qualification Matches (Pool Play)

Saturday 13th May - Main Draw (Pool Play)

Sunday 14th May – Classification Matches followed by Semi Finals

Women’s Final – 2.00pm

The weekend is going to be a fantastic atmosphere and hopefully the numbers from 2014 can be matched from the spectators.

Entry is free for all spectators so everyone is more than welcome to come, enjoy the party, and support all participating teams.
