KV Drita GJILAN celebrate fourth straight title in Kosovo’s national cup
News from the National Federations

Prishtina, Kosovo, March 30, 2017. KV Drita GJILAN recently claimed the women’s national cup of Kosovo after edging their domestic rivals KV SKENDERAJ 3-1 in the final (18-25, 25-23, 25-13, 25-16). The match took place at the 1. October sports hall in the country’s capital, Prishtina, with some 1,000 fans in attendance. On top of this, live broadcasting of the match was available via the Radio Television of Kosovo (RTK).

The first set was a close affair up to 16-all, before KV SKENDERAJ broke away and eventually won the opening set with a margin of seven points (25-18). The course of the game did not change in the second set where KV SKENDERAJ secured a comfortable lead at 22-17 but this was not enough to double their advantage in the match as KV Drita GJILAN fought back to emerge victorious at 25-23. After this, the course of the match changed in favour of Drita, as they easily won the third and fourth sets to seal a 3-1 victory while KV SKENDERAJ suffered a setback also because of the injury to one of their best players, middle blocker Elvira Bajraktari.

As a result, KV Drita GJILAN secured their fourth straight title in the competition and got an extra boost of energy ahead of the start of the national league Playoffs where their main rivals for the crown will be once more KV SKENDERAJ.

Earlier this season KV Drita GJILAN made history by representing Kosovo in the 2017 edition of the CEV Volleyball Champions League where they lost in the first round to Bulgaria’s national champions Maritza PLOVDIV.
