Faroese Cup Finals coming up this weekend
News from the National Federations

Tórshavn, Faroe Islands, February 24, 2017. The Faroese national cup finals will take place on Saturday and there will be a new champion in both the men’s and women’s competition since the respective titleholders ÍF Fuglafjørður and Fleyr Tórshavn lost in the semi-finals.

Women’s Final - KÍF Kollafjørður vs TB Tvøroyri

In the women’s final KÍF Kollafjørður, who have never won the cup so far, will be taking on four-time winners TB Tvøroyri, whose last cup triumph came in 2006; KÍF have just once been in the final, losing 3-2 in 2007 and will be eager to make amends for their disappointment back then. However, it could be anybody’s game this time. TB is seven points adrift of KÍF in the league table, but with two matches in hand though; on top of this, when the two teams met a month ago, it was TB who won 3-1.

Men’s Final - Fleyr Tórshavn vs SÍ Sørvágur

By most people, Fleyr are the heavy favourites against the youngsters of SÍ Sørvágur, but being favourites is not a role Fleyr has thrived in earlier. Fleyr, who have never won the cup, have been in two finals where they both times were odds on favourites to clinch the title, but went home empty handed on both occasions.
With a comfortable lead in the league table, Fleyr will have to wear the favourite’s role again this time, although the odds may have swung slightly towards SÍ during the last weeks. They have indeed come very strong and have won every match they have contested during the last couple of months – not least a 3-0 victory over Fleyr a month ago which was Fleyr’s first defeat of the season.

Both finals will be transmitted live on TV and radio and live streaming will be available as well.

Youth Finals on Sunday

For several years now, Sunday is the day for the youth cup finals, which have the exact same professional setup as the senior’s finals with top referees, a speaker, music, live streaming on the Internet and not least many spectators in the hall.
