MODENA ready for much anticipated derby with CONEGLIANO
2017 CEV Volleyball Champions League - Women
Modena, Italy, January 11, 2017. After their victory over Chemik POLICE in the opening round, Liu Jo Nordmeccanica MODENA will take the stage of the CEV Volleyball Champions League again on Thursday night when hosting Imoco Volley CONEGLIANO. Since their opponents won their first match with Telekom BAKU, the leadership in Pool A will be at stake.
The head coach of MODENA, Marco Gaspari is ready for the challenge: “Our journey in this pool started with a great victory in Poland over a very strong team but it would be pointless if we do not continue playing the same way in the next matches. We know we are playing another strong opponent in Imoco Volley, so we have to try and be more consistent and aggressive in our play, especially after the last round we had in our national league.”
MODENA and CONEGLIANO are crossing their ways for the second time within a few weeks. Last December 19, CONEGLIANO emerged victorious 3-2 at the end of a real battle. “Our team has to remain ‘hungry’ in every training session, video session, because the consistency of our performance depends chiefly on how we work on a day-by-day basis. CONEGLIANO play very dynamic, fast Volleyball but at the same time, we are looking for consistency in our game. We have to put pressure with our serve, so if we can make their setter [Katarzyna Skorupa] run a little bit around, that would not be a bad thing.”
Liu Jo Nordmeccanica MODENA take on this match after qualifying to the Final Four of the Italian national cup. They did so after beating Pomì CASALMAGGIORE in a match that coincided with the comeback of Neriman Özsoy after the Turkish spiker suffered an injury on December 19.
