Ukraine take lessons from first round robin, go for three wins in Belgium
2017 CEV Volleyball European Championship - Men

Kozani, Greece, September 20, 2016. Ukraine men’s national team played 15 sets this past weekend in Kozani, Greece in the first of two round robin tournaments on schedule for the second round of qualifiers – Pool C to the 2017 CEV Volleyball European Championship – Men. Ukraine eventually claimed one victory out of three matches and upon completion of the tournament the players and coaching staff stayed on in northern Greece in order to prepare for the second round of matches that will take place this coming weekend in Merksem / Antwerp, Belgium.

“We had many ups and downs and our teamwork was not so good,” said Ukraine coach Vitaliy Stadnikov. “We started the match with Moldova really bad but we found our real level in the second and third sets. However, we failed again in the fourth before regrouping in the tie-break to celebrate a victory in the end. As for the remaining five-sets matches we played, we were not as successful as in the match with Moldova because we made too many mistakes in reception. That is why we have been working on this aspect as we prepare for the second round robin in Belgium,” he continued. “After the first tournament in Greece, Belgium are the favourites of the pool since they took three wins in as many matches but we are motivated to try and sweep three in a row this weekend in Antwerp.”

The last time Ukraine men’s national team played in the Final Round of the EuroVolley was in 2005 – when the championship was co-hosted by Italy and Serbia and Montenegro.
