News from the CEV

Skopje, Former Y.R. of Macedonia, August 30, 2016. After visiting Latvia’s capital Riga and meeting with some of the Latvian highest political and sports authorities on Wednesday and Thursday, CEV President Aleksandar Boričić will travel to Skopje later this week as the capital city of the Former Y.R. of Macedonia plays host to a CEV women’s-only Beach Volleyball Satellite.

On the first day of his visit, the CEV President will have a high-profile meeting with the Prime Minister of the Balkan country, Mr Emil Dimitriev. The efforts that the CEV President has so far made to support the development of Volleyball and Beach Volleyball in the Former Y.R. of Macedonia are truly remarkable and exemplary. Fruitful discussions are expected to result from this meeting.

Following the meeting with the Prime Minister, the CEV President will attend the opening ceremony of the CEV Satellite along with the Mayor of the City of Skopje.
The next day Mr Boričić will meet with the President of the National Olympic Committee, Mr Vasil Tupurkovski, in order to discuss development projects regarding Volleyball and Beach Volleyball. The sports authorities of the Balkan country are hoping that one team will qualify to the Beach Volleyball competition of the Tokyo 2020 Olympics in four years’ time – a feat that no Macedonian players has ever achieved.

Mr Boričić will also meet with the Mayor of Skopje, Mr Koce Trajanovski to discuss the idea of establishing a Beach Volleyball camp in the city.

This round of meetings means a lot to the leadership of the Volleyball Federation of the Former Y.R. of Macedonia and the expectations are high. The visit also shows the CEV’s appreciation towards the excellent job done by the local Volleyball officials which has produced unprecedented results – the men’s national team have indeed claimed back-to-back silver medals in the 2015 and 2016 editions of the CEV Volleyball European League.
