Truly Queens of Northern Ireland
News from the National Federations

Belfast, Northern Ireland, May 5, 2016. Queen’s University Belfast completed a clean sweep of the silverware for women’s Volleyball Clubs in Northern Ireland this season. Not only were they undefeated in the ERREA League Championship and the end-of-season NIVA Cup Tournament, they won the inaugural League Cup competition beating the ever present challengers Polonia Belfast in the final.

To add to the Queen’s magic, their novice second team won the Women’s Division One title to bring four trophies to the country’s oldest university campus.

In the men’s events, former champions Richhill Raiders from the Apple Orchard County Armagh, took the ERREA Championship and the League Cup despite losing captain and setter Mark Fulton – who is also the setter of the Northern Ireland national team – due to a serious leg injury in the final league decider.

Veteran Masters Team Zimmer were the surprise but deserved winners of the NIVA Cup Blitz and the Ballymoney Blaze second team won Division 1 in the season that their Firsts took part for the first time in the CEV Volleyball Challenge Cup (losing to Drenica R&Rukolli SKENDERAJ in Kosovo) and were runners-up to Richhill in the ERREA Championship.
