New ball and green liberos take centre stage on Champions League first night
2015 CEV DenizBank Volleyball Champions League - Men
Luxembourg, November 5, 2014. The first night of action in the 2015 CEV DenizBank Volleyball Champions League – Men will be one to remember, at least for a couple of good reasons. If Asseco Resovia RZESZOW and Noliko MAASEIK were the ones to celebrate in the end, it was also the first time the Mikasa MVA200CEV volleyball was used in an official competition. On top of this, to follow on the launch of the CEV ‘Volleyball Way – Green Way’ campaign, all libero players wore green playing shirts to symbolise their leading role within their respective teams.
The start of the matches on schedule for Tuesday night was preceded by a short ceremony where the second referee gave a Mikasa MVA200CEV ball to one of the ball retrievers who then walked along the court to hand it over to the serving player. A young boy from Maaseik (see picture) looked simply thrilled with the opportunity to present the Mikasa MVA200CEV to one of his Volleyball idols, Noliko’s team captain Jelte Maan.
“In the end this is what the CEV DenizBank Volleyball Champions League is all about: an opportunity to mesmerise people, especially the younger generations, with a terrific show unfolding both on and off the court and whereby people can understand and experience the unique features of our sport. It is now and with such actions that you start growing tomorrow’s stars,” CEV President André Meyer says.
The Mikasa MVA200CEV is one of the key visuals specifically designed for the CEV ‘Volleyball Way – Green Way’ campaign which cements the ambition of Europe’s Volleyball family to support a sustainable development of our society, thereby also underlining the fresh and clean image of Volleyball.
The ‘Volleyball Way – Green Way’ campaign launched about ten days ago at the CEV XXXV General Assembly in Antalya, Turkey, widens the spectrum of the CEV corporate social responsibility, thereby following in the footsteps of the ‘Fair Play – Volleyball Way’ campaign that Volleyball fans have already become familiar with.
Apart from the Mikasa MVA200CEV, the ‘Green Way’ campaign is being promoted also via the green uniforms worn by all libero players that symbolise their status in the team as the ‘defenders’. The libero players set the tone and the example for anyone who wants to take up an active role in the promotion of a sustainable development of our society. “To defend is to save! If you defend you care! We do care: Volleyball Way. Green Way!” reads the slogan that is being read out to thousands of Volleyball fans.
