Portugal hosts Beach Volleyball Festival with long-lasting legacy
News from the National Federations
Matosinhos, Portugal, July 24, 2014. One of the main goals set for this year’s CEV Youth Beach Volleyball Summer Festivals is to gather as many young people as possible and inspire the next generation of Beach Volleyball players. This goal was achieved by the Portuguese Volleyball Federation at the event organised on July 19-20 on the beach of Matosinhos, a location that has become known to the international audience this year after playing host to the European qualifying event for the U17 Beach Volleyball World Championships and to one of eight first-round tournaments of the 2014-2016 CEV Beach Volleyball Continental Cup.
The organisers got involved many young boys and girls who had a good time and could discover, surrounded by their friends, the fun and great ambiance that only Beach Volleyball can spread around. A message that the Portuguese Volleyball Federation did also spread across the country and now shares with an international audience and readership.
The event held in Matosinhos showed that Beach Volleyball in Portugal is on the right track and that the sport keeps on growing and developing. 300 players, most of whom aged 15, joined the Summer Festival together with their coaches. They all got the opportunity to play the game they are so fond of and also the few ones that did never compete before could only but enjoy the ambiance and the joy that Beach Volleyball can bring.
Though every competition ends with some winners, at the CEV Youth Beach Volleyball Summer Festival in Matosinhos – an area with a long tradition in this sport – all participants came out victorious and travelled back home with great memories that will accompany them for another year, up to the next edition of the tournament.
