Dupnitsa unveils new look of Marek Union-Ivkoni’s sports hall
News from the clubs

Dupnitsa, Bulgaria, July 8, 2014.  The new look of the sports hall, where Bulgaria’s men’s champion Marek Union-Ivkoni DUPNITSA has been playing its domestic home matches, has been unveiled during a special ceremony.

The mayor of Dupnitsa Metodi Chimev signed a € 2.3 million contract for the reconstruction of the facility.  The hall is expected to be ready by September 1, 2015.

“We have an amazing team and strong children’s volleyball academy.  Volleyball stars such as Tsvetan Sokolov and Elitsa Vasileva have begun their sporting endeavors from Marek.  But it is really sad that we do not have a modern facility.  For a third consecutive year we are going to play our Champions League matches away from our fans, in Samokov.  Dupnitsa has become a real volleyball center of Bulgaria.  As a mayor I was obligated to make everything possible to provide the financing for the sports hall reconstruction and now it is a fact,” said Chimev.

The facility will meet all requirements of the CEV for official matches.  Its seating capacity will be for 1,505 people in addition to 200 more movable seats.  There will be a press conference room, media room, VIP box and restaurant, fitness, sauna, steam room, six changing rooms, rooms for rehabilitation and more.  The construction of this multifunctional hall will begin next month on the same place as the old facility, which will be destroyed.  It was built 40 years ago with a capacity for just 865 persons.

“I hope that we will become champions again next year and the CEV will issue a license for the new hall, so that we can finally play our Champions League matches at home,” concluded Chimev.
