FYROM record sixth straight victory to book semi-final spot
2014 CEV Volleyball European League - Men
Skopje, F.Y.R. of Macedonia, June 22, 2014. The rookies of the F.Y.R. of Macedonia added on Sunday another chapter to their success story in the 2014 edition of the CEV Volleyball European League – Men routing Turkey in three straight sets (25-18, 25-19, 25-20) to score their sixth consecutive victory in the competition. The side captained by Nikola Gjorgiev (pictured) currently tops the tables in Pool B with 17 points and already pocketed a spot for the semis coming up in July. Next week they will rest before resuming their campaign with two away matches against Slovenia, by many seen as the “hottest” candidate to win the title of this year’s European League.

Similarly to what had happened on Saturday, the young players from Turkey showed some good resistance all the way through to the end, but once more the local heroes mentored by head coach Zarko Ristoski showed some quality play to cash their sixth consecutive victory in the competition.
Though opposite Jovica Simovski was the main force for the home team, it was the whole team that performed strong and that deserves credit for this additional victory. And even though they also had highs and lows, the Macedonian players seemed in full control of the match from the start to the end. Turkey attempted a comeback in each set but did not quite succeed in achieving its goal, so Macedonia cemented their leadership in Pool B and could celebrate their qualification for the semis in what is their first participation in the European League.
After resting for one week where they will be able to focus on practice and tactics, the players around team captain Nikola Gjorgiev will travel to Maribor to play Slovenia for a double-header that will determine the winners of the Pool.
