CEV President attends EEVZA General Assembly in Tbilisi, Armenia’s request for affiliation approved
News from the Zonal Associations

Tbilisi, Georgia, May 17, 2014. The annual General Assembly of the Eastern European Volleyball Zonal Association (EEVZA) was held on Saturday, May 17, in Tbilisi. The meeting was attended also by CEV President André Meyer and CEV Vice President Jan Hronek. All of the EEVZA members were represented at the Assembly which took place in Georgia’s capital city for the very first time.

Shortly before attending the plenary session of the EEVZA, Mr. Meyer and Mr. Hronek were received at the premises of Georgia’s Ministry of Sports by Georgian Olympic Committee President Leri Khabelov, a multiple world champion and 1992 Olympic champion in wrestling who is also the Chairman of the Organising Committee set up for the 2015 edition of the European Youth Olympic Festival (EYOF).

To follow up on a request previously submitted by the Armenian Volleyball Federation, this country was eventually admitted to the Eastern European Volleyball Zonal Association, thereby joining Azerbaijan, Belarus, Estonia, Georgia, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Russia, and Ukraine.

The annual report recapping facts and figures for the year 2013 was presented during the Assembly before discussions followed on possible amendments to the regulations for the various Volleyball and Beach Volleyball competitions organised by EEVZA. The calendar for 2014 was also ratified while the statutes of the Zonal Association were reviewed by the delegates in order to define any necessary amendments.

Russia’s Vladimir Patkin was confirmed at the helm of the Eastern European Volleyball Zonal Association for another four years, supported by Vice Presidents Maris Pekalis (Latvia) and Witold Roman (Poland). Mrs. Inara Brokane will continue her work as EEVZA Secretary General for another term of four years as well.
