Denmark’s sole goal is to qualify for Final Round of 2015 European Championship
2015 CEV Volleyball European Championship - Men
Copenhagen, Denmark, April 3, 2014. After writing a piece of history at last year’s CEV VELUX Volleyball European Championship where they made the Playoffs round, the members of Denmark men’s national team will be trying to continue their fairy tale in the upcoming second qualification round for the 2015 edition. Denmark will be hosting from May 22 to 24 the national teams of Turkey and Belarus plus another opponent still to be determined via the first round and head coach Mikael Trolle hopes to exploit the advantage of playing the first of two round robin tournaments at home.
The Danes will be entertaining their home fans at the Antvorskovhallen in Slagelse, the same venue where last year they played their home round in the prelims of the CEV Volleyball European League. The goal set by the coaching staff and the players is to qualify for the Final Round of the 2015 European Championship that will be co-hosted by Bulgaria and Italy.
“This is our only goal, we really want to make the Final Round,” says head coach Mikael Trolle. “However, we know that this is a difficult mission to accomplish since the team will be together for a very short time before actions get underway in late May. Even though some people may think that the qualification for the Final Round is a dream, this is nevertheless what we are aiming at.”
In order to create the best ambiance for the home guys on their way to clinch that much-desired ticket to Bulgaria and Italy, the Danish Volleyball Federation recently announced that tickets for the matches of the European qualifier will be made available for free. “If we want to qualify for the next edition of the European Championship we need all the support from our fans,” Trolle continues. “I am hoping for the same ambiance we got to experience last year as we hosted the European Championship here in Denmark.”
After improving their position in the European Ranking List thanks to their excellent performance at the 2013 EuroVolley, the Danes got the chance to start their journey directly from the second stage of the qualification process. After the first set of matches in Slagelse, the teams will then travel to Minsk, Belarus where the eventual winner of this double round robin will qualify for the Final Round while the second-placed team will get an additional chance via the Third Round scheduled for May 2015.
Mikael Trolle will announce the composition of the roster by mid-April.
