Irish women’s squad announced for St. Patrick’s weekend match
News from the National Federations

Dublin, Ireland, March 6, 2014.  The Republic of Ireland women’s volleyball squad has been announced for the St. Patrick’s weekend match against Northern Ireland on Sunday, March 16, at Trinity College Dublin. The captain has yet to be confirmed, but is expected to be announced at the team’s training on the day before in Colaiste Bride, Clondalkin, Dublin.

The Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland played last January in a friendly match in Craigavon with the Republic winning by 3:1. However, Northern Ireland have a number of key players returning for the St. Patrick’s weekend International, which will make for an even closer encounter. The Republic are progressing well under new coaches Wim Roosenburg and Adam Wong, and with a young team for the future boosted by the presence of a couple of experienced players.

The long term goal for the Republic of Ireland this year is the 2015 CEV Volleyball European Championship - Women qualification from June 6 through 8 in Scotland, with Cyprus, Malta, Northern Ireland and Scotland providing the opposition in Pool A of the Small Countries Division.
