Germany’s sensation TV Ingersoll BÜHL cruises to straight victory over PAOK
2014 CEV Volleyball Cup - Men
Bühl, Germany, January 16, 2014. Rookie TV Ingersoll BÜHL added on Wednesday night another chapter to their success story in the 2014 CEV Volleyball Cup – Men claiming the 1/4 final home match with Greece’s PAOK THESSALONIKI in straight sets (25-19, 25-16, and 25-23). This way the local heroes provided 1,700 home fans with something to cheer about waiting now for the return game coming up next week in Thessaloniki.
TV Ingersoll head coach Ruben Wolochin started the game with the best starting six and after a close start, an ace by Björn Höhne contributed a provisional 15:10 lead for BÜHL. The home team continued to pressure their opponents and scored point after point with a great block by Estonia’s Andri Aganits sealing the final 25-19.
The course of the game did not change in the second set where TV Ingersoll set the pace 8:3 at the first technical time-out. The guys mentored by Ruben Wolochin played strong in defence while their Danish setter Axel Jacobsen orchestrated the offense before he eventually claimed the last point of the set with an ace (25-16).
Things changed at the beginning of the third set where PAOK – supported by some 150 fans – scored point after point. The match was stopped for a while after the Greek fans lit up a torch and as soon as the actions resumed, the home guys of TV Ingersoll showed much resilience and determination to fight their way back. They slowly but surely reduced their gap and as the home crowd soared, they levelled the score at 19. After that, TV Ingersoll was “on” and another two blocks killed by Aganits moved the figures up to 22:20. Joseph Sunder finished it off at 25-23 for a well-deserved 3:0 victory by the German rookies.
