Volleyball mourns CEV Honorary President Georges Boudry
News from the CEV

Luxembourg, January 7, 2014. The Volleyball family is in deep sorrow over the death of CEV Honorary President and former CEV President Georges Boudry (FRA) who passed away on Monday in Paris. Boudry steered Europe’s Volleyball family from 1979 through 1983 and served as the President of the French Volleyball Federation (FFVB) for eleven years (1973-1984). Even in his ‘80s, Boudry was still very close to Europe’s Volleyball family and last May attended in Luxembourg the gala for the CEV 40th anniversary as well as the ceremony for the unveiling of the CEV premises.

“Georges Boudry was first of all a close friend for many of us” CEV President André Meyer says. “We already missed him last September as he could not attend our General Assembly held in the city of Copenhagen and now that he is gone, we will be missing his charisma as well as his genuine passion for the sport. Some months ago I was very pleased to host him at the gala for our 40th anniversary where he was invited to share some memories from the early days of our sport and Confederation. I think his intervention was extremely touching and one of the moments we all will remember for many years to come. Georges was a real Volleyball passionate and our family owes a lot to him. By the time he was at the helm of our Confederation, he was able to consolidate this still young institution and make sure it continued its development and growth. He was the man behind the establishment of the CEV Volleyball Cup; he wanted more and more teams to be able to compete internationally and in this sense he was a real visionary, opening up the doors of that stage to many players and teams” Mr. Meyer continues.

Mr. Boudry devoted some of his last years to collect and collate as much information as possible about the history of the European Volleyball Confederation. “He laid the foundations for a comprehensive history book that is due to come out soon and at the same time he was one of those that were interviewed for another special publication we are about to release to celebrate our 40th anniversary. This clearly shows that he never stopped working for his favorite sport even after retiring,” Mr. Meyer recalls. “Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family, friends, and to the French Volleyball Federation. This gentleman will be greatly missed.”
