Vasileva breaks world record by scoring 57 points in Korean national league
Sofia, Bulgaria, December 21, 2013. Bulgaria’s Elitsa Vasileva just amazed the international Volleyball community by registering 57 points in a game of the Korean national league, thereby turning into the female player with the most points scored in one single match.
The 23-year old player born in Dupnitsa who spent a few seasons in Italy (from 2007 through 2012) before moving to Brazil first and then to Korea for the current season broke the previous world record hold by US American Nicole Fawcett who had registered 55 points in another game of the Korean league played earlier this year. Vasileva – who is a member of the Bulgarian national team that won bronze at this year’s European League Finals in Varna – anchored her current team, the Heungkuk Pink Spiders, to a 3:2 victory over the Expressway (22-25, 25-19, 25-23, 20-25, and 15-13) thereby scoring more points than all of her teammates combined together (they totaled 50).
Vasileva will now return home to join forces with her national team and try to qualify for the 2014 FIVB Volleyball World Championship via the third round qualifier scheduled for January 3-5 where Bulgaria will host in Varna the national teams of Slovakia, Belarus, and the Czech Republic.
