SOPOT takes on another Turkish standout in the Playoffs 12
News from the clubs
Sopot, Poland, December 19, 2013. After crossing their ways with VakifBank ISTANBUL in the prelims, Poland’s champions Atom Trefl SOPOT will be playing another Turkish standout in the Playoffs 12 of the 2014 CEV DenizBank Volleyball Champions League. After the DOL held on Thursday morning in Luxembourg, the Atomic girls got to know the name of their next opponent, Eczacibasi VitrA.
“Eczacibasi is a very strong and much decorated team but we think that everything is possible and we’ll be doing our best so as to win the next couple of matches” says team captain Izabela Belcik. “It is also going to be another long travel for us but apart from Piacenza, there were no other places that close to Poland. Now we know our next opponent and it is already time to start preparing for this double clash” she adds.
Atom will be playing the first round at home before going for the return game one week later in Istanbul. SOPOT will get to play some of the most known Volleyball stars, including Denise Hanke, Christa Harmotto and Turkey’s Volleyball icon Neslihan Demir (Darnel).
“Every Volleyball fan knows Eczacibasi because this club has many titles to their account” stresses Atom Trefl SOPOT president Roman Szczepan Kniter. “They won their national league 23 times and they have been one of the major forces to be reckoned with also in recent times. They did not lose any match in their group and dropped only one set on their way to the Playoffs 12. We know that we have a difficult mission to accomplish but we believe that we can stand a chance. It will also be another excellent opportunity to see some of the world’s best Volleyball players in action here at the ERGO Arena” he concludes.
