Norway proud with outcome of first international Beach Volleyball camp for juniors
News from the National Federations
Stavanger, Norway, November 29, 2013. Toppvolley Norge is the special program set up by the Norwegian Volleyball Federation whose main task is to work with young players so as to lay the foundations for their development. The program was introduced ten years ago and it has already produced some good results. To celebrate that anniversary a special training camp was recently held with the participation of young Beach Volleyball players from Germany and Poland who have medalled at international competitions in recent times.
The players who had stood on top of the podium at this year’s FIVB U19 World Championship in Porto were in attendance with Germany’s Clemens Wickler and Moritz Reichert crossing the ways of Norway’s silver medallists Bjarne Nikolai Huus and Christian Sørum. This year’s U21 world champions Katarzyna Kociolek and Jagoda Gruszczynska of Poland were also among the guests of the training camp.
The camp lasted for about one week with individual and team practices under the guidance of different coaches. The camp ended with a special tournament joined by players of the local Volleyball school and guests from Germany and Poland. The highlight came on Thursday with a series of friendly matches that got started with Pool play in the morning to continue with the semis and finals later in the afternoon on the main court of the local Beach Volleyball centre.
Home heroes Huus/Sørum won the boys’ competition while Anika Krebs/Sandra Ittlinger of Germany topped the charts in the girls’ division. Young children aged from 6 to 12 were invited to join the training sessions and had a lot of fun also with the foreign guests invited by the Norwegian Volleyball Federation. The coaching staff of the various teams had the possibility to exchange their know-how and expertise with a series of round-table discussions.
The camp was unanimously appreciated by all participants especially for it compensates for the lack of opportunities for young Beach Volleyball players to compete during the fall and winter season. Toppvolley Norge hopes that the event can be repeated in the future.
