News from the Zonal Associations
Goteborg, Sweden, October 5, 2013. The actions continued on Saturday at the Beach Center in Goteborg as Sweden’s second largest city is playing host to a NEVZA Beach Volleyball Tournament joined by teams from Sweden, Norway, Denmark, and Finland and where FIVB Ranking Points are at stake. As expected, Norway is dominating the scene in the men’s tournament with three pairs in the semis while a similar result was achieved by the Swedish ladies. The final act of the tournament is coming up on Sunday.
“It feels just great to be able to play an international tournament here in Sweden and it is also a great opportunity to play very competitive teams from our neighboring countries” says home heroine Tadva Yoken. Together with partner Camilla Nilsson she won silver at the NEVZA Beach Volleyball Championships last August in Oslo and in Goteborg she had made the semis to play there Cindy Treland and Janne Pedersen of Norway.
The local Beach Volleyball club in Goteborg is the largest of that kind in Sweden and a few home players enjoyed the opportunity to join the NEVZA tournament. One of these is Josef Pernholm who together with partner Alexander Herrmann finished the competition in seventh place. “We just get the right inspiration from the great players from Norway, Finland, and Denmark we have seen here” he says. “We need to exchange experiences and also to play more often pairs from other countries. We would like to play more international tournaments and this one here in Goteborg is a great opportunity. Of course I like to play in my home town, this is just the icing on the cake” Herrmann adds.
