Countdown to big match with Bulgaria has started in Gdansk
2013 CEV VELUX Volleyball European Championship - Men
Gdansk, Poland, September 24, 2013. On Tuesday evening thousands of fans are supposed to flock to ERGO Arena in Gdansk for the much anticipated Playoff game starring the local heroes in red and white jerseys against Bulgaria. Among the fans that will fill up the stands of Poland’s most modern arena there will also be the members of Atom Trefl SOPOT, Poland’s champions who regularly play their home matches in that same hall. The players mentored by Dutchman Teun Buijs will keep their fingers crossed cheering on their countrymen as they vie for a spot in the 1/4 finals to play there Germany.
“This clash will see two experienced teams in action but nevertheless I think that our guys have got good chances to make it to the next round” says Atom Trefl team captain Izabela Belcik. “Everything is possible in that kind of tournaments and all teams are equally strong and competitive”.
The guys will be under pressure for they did lose to Bulgaria this past summer in the World League but how shall they cope with the stress? “The players of the Polish national team shall clean up their minds for this belongs to the past. As you play your opponent, you start from scratch and what happened before does not count anymore” Belcik adds. “This means that next to the physical side there is also a psychological preparation that is extremely important. You shall not feel any pressure and be ready to fight until the end. I do believe in our team and I am sure that Poland and Bulgaria will contribute a great Volleyball show tonight at ERGO Arena. And of course I hope that our guys will be the ones leaving the court with a bright smile on their faces in the end”.
