Crown Prince of Denmark announced Patron of upcoming EuroVolley 2013
2013 CEV VELUX Volleyball European Championship - Men
Copenhagen, Denmark, August 29, 2013. On Thursday the organizers of the 2013 CEV VELUX Volleyball European Championship – Men have announced that Frederik, Crown Prince of Denmark, is set to become the Patron of the Volleyball event of the year co-hosted by Denmark and Poland through this coming September 20-29.
His Royal Highness Prince Frederik, the elder son of Queen Margrete II and Henrik, the Prince Consort, is the heir apparent to the throne of Denmark. Price Frederik recently attended a training session of Denmark’s national team to see where the home players stand as they prepare for that much anticipated home European Championship.
The Crown Prince did enjoy the opportunity to play Volleyball with Danish setter Axel Jacobsen and afterwards he even showed great skills in reception as he got to test the special canon that the Danes are using to play better defence via a series of specific drills.
“We are very proud to announce that Prince Frederik has accepted to be the Patron of the upcoming CEV VELUX Volleyball European Championship” says the President of the Danish Volleyball Federation Erik Jacobsen. “This Championship we are co-hosting with our friends from Poland is evidently going to turn into the biggest celebration for Volleyball we ever had in our country. We hope that the Crown Prince will be attending some games thereby helping us create more awareness around the Championship and Volleyball in Denmark as well as in Europe”.
The Championship will stop in four Danish cities, with Odense and Herning hosting preliminary pools A and C before the Playoffs and 1/4 finals take place in Aarhus. Gdansk and Gdynia are the venues set to host preliminary pools B and D, with the magnificent ERGO Arena in Gdansk being the place where the remaining Playoff and 1/4 final matches will be played. The 2013 CEV VELUX Volleyball European Championship – Men will come to a close on September 28-29 at Parken stadium in Copenhagen with the much awaited semi-finals and final matches. The final weekend has already attracted fans from more than 30 countries as tickets were sold to Volleyball enthusiasts even from USA, Australia, and Japan.
The Championship will be broadcast in about 130 countries across the world. Sport Event Denmark and the host cities (Aarhus, Herning, Odense, and Copenhagen) are the partners of the Championship whose title sponsor is Danish company VELUX.
